中国第一条互联网专线的建设者——中国科学院高能物理研究所研究员许榕生回忆：“1994年4月15日我参加在西欧高能物理中心CERN举办的第一届全球ＷＷＷ技术研讨会上，WWW的发明人蒂姆·伯纳斯·李（Tim Berners-Lee）在开幕时打出一张世界地图，标示凡有互联网的地方都将装上WWW服务器，特别指着地图上的中国一大板块说，这里也将会有ＷＷＷ，几小时前我告诉他中国已经加入了互联网。中国的第一台WWW服务器是在会议期间我从瑞士会场通知北京高能所建立起来的。高能所计算中心的女学生樊岚在美国佛吉尼亚CEBAF研究所工作，她协助安装了ＷＷＷ服务器程序并为高能所设计了第一个英文网页，附上了唯一的一张图片是她随身携带的纪念北京正负电子对撞机邮票，网址为http://www.ihep.ac.cn/。”
